Aghhhh!!!! Where have I gone wrong????
The last week has been an utter test of patience and parenting, and I am afraid that I am losing the battle on both!! My youngest, (isn't it always her?), has decided to write on things.
It started when I noticed that she had striped herself with marker last week. I asked her why she had colored herself and she very calmly explained "Because I was being a tiger!!" Alrighty then!! So we bathed her, and I explained that she was not to do this again.
Then it was marker on the carpet, which I found much after it had happened, so again, a warning.
Then nail polish on the toilet...
Then yesterday we had her name written upside down in marker on the front of her shirt, marker on the carpet (again), and the couch.... (the couch was a tiger this time???)
I made her scrub the carpet, slapped her hands (hard), and sent her to her room. I also took the markers away for the weekend. (I thought this was a good punishment, because she loves those markers). She wept miserably.
As I readied her for bed last night, I noticed that she had a circle of nail polish on one of her feet. I questioned her and she told me she was trying to get it on her toes. By this time, I just wanted her in bed, and told her if she wanted nail polish to just ask, and I would help her. I also told her that she could not use her makeup, including lipstick or nail polish for a week. (yes, I know she is only 3, but she got makeup for Christmas and loves it!!) She went to bed bawling over the unfairness of it all.
I went downstairs and in the bathroom discovered more nail poish on the floor and cupboards!! I cannot believe she is still breathing!!! Lucky she was already in bed.
Today, I walked into the living room after spending an hour playing with her, and found that she'd used permanent black marker on the white bookshelf that holds our phone. Again, reddened hands and a trip crying to her room.
WHAT DO I DO???????
I remember going through this with Ave. She was late with the whole writing on the wall thing too. I remember at one point I walked into Gabe's room, and saw a stick man and his name written on the wall. We asked Avery what happened and she told us Gabe did it. Haha. Little did she realize Gabe couldn't even hold a pencil yet!! lol. Silly kid.
So anyway, if you have any great ideas, other that getting rid of nail polish and markers altogether, which is not going to happen, please, let me know. The child's very life may be in your hands!!
Hugs to you all, and hope you are doing a better job than me!!!
God Bless

yeah, cause your very normal 3 year old writes on things, that means you're not doing a good job....YOU DOPE!
Ugh, Lei went through that just after we moved to our apartment, in drawers, on the underside of her bunk, walls, doors, the bathtub walls, I thought I was going to go nuts.
I dunno what finally worked, threatening to take her fingers away caused an uproar! teeheee. I told her that writing on things not made to be written on is completely disrespectful and rude and that I wouldn't allow her to behave like a rude, disrespectful, unkind person, therefore, if she wrote on anything except APPROVED paper, AFTER I said yes, and if she EVER touched anything that makes marks on anything, EVER without my permission, she would get her bum spanked. She did it again, and I spanked her and made her clean up the mess while Jaala watched a movie, and when she was finished, I made her sit on her bed and miss the entire movie, and the next day she missed Kid CBC and had to sit on her bed and the next day, before Kid CBC she came in and told me she was sorry and she would try to remember not to write. That was the end of it. *shrug*
Good luck! Emma is just so cute and persistent!!!
No advice, but let me know what works, as I am sure one of mine will do this at some point. Praying that you will continue to keep your cool, cause this parenting thing is really really hard. Really really. Nothing you read or plan before hand prepares you for it. Did I mention how hard parenting is? You're doing a great job mrs J,
Miss you lots,
C
This too shall pass!
I love you and hang in there. You are an amazing mom and I so still look up to you.
I haven't had to go through this yet so no advise, but Im sure my little one will test me at this one day.
I love you and call me if you need a break, and want to drop her off.
