What a night!! I saw every hour from 1:30 to 6 am go by.
I talked to the nurse on phones twice
and the hospital twice.
Had a brrr cold bath so my son would,
watched inspector gadget
and blues clues,
messaged heads
and backs for an hour,
took a tempurature 9 times,
gave medicine 3 times,
changed the sweat soaked sheets twice,
dragged new bedding and pillows to the couch
- and back again.
Read stories and sang songs,
told my boy how proud I am of him.
Held his hand.
Watched him breathe.
Listened to Emma cough
and chatter.
Stomached the smell of the stinky favorite blanket so we could cuddle.
Made four trips to the freezer for popsicles.
Searched through the pink and purples to find the orange ones.
Lost the thermometer twice.
Carefully wrote down temps and med times.
Felt the wonder of a moment of warm sleep.
Felt astonishment that I actually woke up this morning- happy.
Felt so blessed to have a nurse on phone,
hospital close,
medicine on hand,
one child that slept through the night,
God to hold onto me,
and to be healthy enough to be there when my kids need me.
All in a nights work. Here's to all of you who do it with nary a word of appreciation. You are amazing!!
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. God Bless. Char
