Quilts and pieces

"Blankets wrap you in warmth, quilts wrap you in love."

Years ago, and I mean about 13 years ago, before the time of children, I decided to make a quilt. I didn't have a pattern, I didn't know the 'rules', but I thought it would be fun.

And I was right. I measured, ironed, cut, stitched and did it again.

It is now my favorite quilt in the house.

Why?

Because I didn't have much fabric to use, and my mom shared hers with me.

See the orangey funky fabric on the left? That was a table cloth that I grew up seeing on our table. My parents had gotten it as a wedding gift in 1972. It makes me smile.

The pink 'snap dragon' fabric? That was painstakingly chosen with my mom in grade eight, for my very first home ec. class and project, a top and matching pants. (Don't imagine it, it was that bad!! Lol) I spent the whole year telling my parents what 'Mrs. Staples said.' It was a great year, and irreplaceable in my history :)

The camouflage was everything my dad and brother loved and owned. Hunters all the way! Now it also makes me think of my sons!

The minty green fabric with peach colored flowers was the fabric chosen to cover over a sofa bed that I got as I grew up a little. I remember being so excited about it, and just loving that my parents would pay to have it re-covered for me!

See the Navajo print? For a while our house was decorated in that theme. The rugs, pottery, paintings... takes me back to another time.

The pastel-y flowers and hearts? This was a precious moments fabric that my mom used to make a dress and apron for my young cousin, Gina. When she outgrew it, it went to my very own Avery. SO adorable!!

And lastly the sunflowers... There was a few years in my life that sunflowers ruled. It was one of those things that started with me having one thing with a sunflower on it... and then everyone thought they must buy me anything and everything with sunflowers. Lol- yes, it happens to many of us!!

Anyway, I did like them, and my mom made me a vest of this stunning fabric, and Ryan a matching tie! :) Can you believe we wore them at the same time? So that reminds me of my mother's love, and my husbands!! LOL!!

So, now that I've got that all down for posterity sake, I highly recommend that you consider making a quilt. It doesn't have to be perfect, but use the fabrics of your life. Stitch your memories together so that one day you can wrap them around yourself and feel the love.

Be blessed friends,

Thank you for the beautiful illustration! It blesses my soul to be reminded of how the seemingly little things in our lives, when "stitched" together, show us our cup overflows! :)
