Hours Away....

Lose not yourself in a far off time, seize the moment that is thine.- Friedrich Schiller

"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives..."

We each have an allotted number of hours in these bodies, on this earth, before we expire.

We can't reverse time, no matter how many creams we apply, how many crossword puzzles we do, or how much plastic surgery we brave. We will get older, or we'll die young.

So how are we going to spend our time?

I often rag on my hubby for his addiction to the computer. He can spend hours staring at a screen, just playing games. These games don't do anything. They are all fake, and time consuming. Who would spend their life on that?

Lol. Weeeellllll,,, I might not spend as much time online, but I read. I love to read, and I spent two to three hours today reading. It was a novel, which I had read before, and it was purely fictional. Fake, and time consuming. Hmmmmm.

My kids prefer T.V. They watch ridiculous Disney shows that are so noisy and annoying. They'll watch them back to back to back, if I let them.

What is up with us?

I have actually said out loud the words "Well that's two hours I'll never get back." or "What a waste of time."

Why don't I think about it first, and choose not to do it?

Now don't get me wrong, we'd burn out if we spent every moment 'doing' important things. It's cool to take time for yourself. But when I have to spend every day 'cleaning' my house, I would guess that I haven't actually spent the day doing that. I live in a townhouse, people. There are a lot of things crammed in here, but if I really applied myself I could do the whole place top to bottom in a couple of days. I might die of exhaustion, but it would be done.

I waste way too much of my time.

It bothers me, because I end up cheating myself. I don't have 'time' to visit someone, or to write my book, or to play a game with my kids. To write my Grandma a letter, shovel someone's driveway, or give someone a ride when I see them walking by.

So.

I'm working on it. I'm really working.

This blog takes time, but I choose to have this 'me' time. It's practical, it's good for my brain. It helps me think. It relaxes me. It's a wise choice.

I've stopped playing games again. Once in a while I will play a facebook game, but eventually I realize that I'm addicted and I go cold turkey again. Lol- that was this week. You know when you want to spend real money on a fake hot tub for your game that you're a little kookoo!! :)

I am working on some practical housecleaning ideas. One is this: When you walk out of a room in your house, even if you were just passing through, leave it looking better than it did when you walked in. Slowly instead of seeing the same mess each time you walk by, you'll notice how nice it's looking. It seems silly, but it really is working.

Anyway. Take a moment and think about how you could better use your time. What are you missing out on? Who is missing out on you? What can you cut down in your day to allow for those things?

Take the challenge. Make the most of the time you have. I know you can do it.

No regrets.

P.S. I found my lost gift. Still looking for my mind. :)

Monday To-do List

Good evening! Tomorrow we are focusing on the living room/family room with this list! Remember, don't put pressure on yourself to get it all done. If you pick 3 items--in any combination--you will make a difference in your home today.

Holiday Alert: Christmas is 21 days away!

SIMPLE TASKS:

1. Clutter bust for ten minutes.
2. Remove unnecessaries from the floor.
3. Straighten books on all shelves.

INTERMEDIATE TASKS:

1. Clean the floor.
2. Straighten the coat closet.
3. Dust a piece of furniture in its entirety.

CHALLENGING TASKS:

1. Clean the windows (from the inside).
2. Clean the front porch.
3. Dust all flat surfaces.

I just wanted to share with you a sample of one of the lists I get emailed to me daily with helpful boosters and suggestions of where to get started in housework. You can sign up for the same thing! I find it really motivating.

You can sign up here, if you're interested. http://www.househoncho.com/daily-to-do-list/
