Christ Was

I was reading the BC paper today at the Rec Center (I think it was an old one), and there was pages of comics and letters written in about not being able to say Merry Christmas anymore. It just makes me sick. One of the cartoons had a couple of Law officers walking away with a nativity set from someone's yard. It got me to thinking about how much I take it for granted that I can love God out in the open. If I wanted, I could put a nitivity in my front yard still, and I could hang a Happy Birthday Jesus sign on my door. But maybe not for long.

It seems absurd to me, but Mom and Dad went to the city two weeks ago and were looking for a small nativity set. They stopped at several gift type shops and no kidding- MANY of the shopkeepers did not know what they were talking about. When Dad explained "you know, with Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus?" the response was even worse "No sorry, I don't think we have anything like that here." They even went to the Christmas store with nothing like that in stock!!!

I am stunned that it is that bad. People don't even know that Christmas is celebrated because of Christ's birthday???

Last year, I had the amazing experience of helping a family in need, and in doing so, stumbled across an old used Christmas tree. One morning as it sat in my living room awaiting delivery, I raised my eyes to the print along the side. And then... I had a 'God Sighting'. The tree came from Walmart as indicated by the big typed print along the side, but it was the other writing that interested me. It said CHRISTWAS TREE. Huh? Christwas? Oooohhhhhhhhh!!!! CHRIST WAS!!! Of course!! Why hadn't I thought of it sooner? What isn't it the Christ- was season? The Christ- was concert? A Christ- was present?

It made so much more sense this way, that I started to wonder if sometime long ago someone made the mistake that changed Christwas into Christmas.

I took a picture of the box, to remember it by. I'll post it for you too.

Take a moment this season,
The tree may be down,
The family may be gone,
The goodies may be eaten, but guess what?
Christ Was.

And that, my friends,
is all that really matters.

God Bless you all, Goodnight.
